artist statement

speaking in color

i am an abstract painter and mixed-media artist, a divergent thinker with an intuitive and experimental process. my practice is grounded in color, language, and color as (the richest and most universally intelligible) language and the ways in which art and art objects invite dialogue and carry meaning in(to) the world.

color is how i think and communicate; my color-driven highly gestural work is the translation, the embodiment of an intense mind in constant motion. working primarily in vibrant acrylic and incorporating a range of surfaces and secondary media, i push boundaries with form, texture, and contrast. invoking the deeply felt emotional resonance of color, my work makes manifest the experience of seeing in color, thinking in color, speaking in color, being in color, creating fertile spaces for contemplation and understanding.
